Candidates whose exams were postponed on May 10, 11, and 12, 2023, now have options available to them, according to the Cambridge International Examination.
The first is that all candidates impacted by the exam cancellations have been requested special consideration from Cambridge by the British Council.
Candidates have a second choice if they do not want to use special consideration for the subjects in which their exams were canceled: they can withdraw and receive a refund.
Candidates may request to withdraw from any subject in the June 2023 series, excluding those affected by the cancellations, according to the official statement.
These requests will be handled by the British Council in accordance with the 2023 withdrawal policy of Cambridge International. Candidates are not permitted to request marking for withdrawn components in the future once a withdrawal request has been made.
The statement also refers to Cambridge Handbook 2023, paragraph 3.2.10, which states that candidates are not permitted to use coursework from a prior exam series. As a result, candidates who drop out of the June 2023 series and reapply in a later series will need to submit fresh coursework.
The CIE, however, discourages cancellations and refunds for a number of reasons. Schools will not be able to support students’ exam preparation for subjects after June 2023 for XIC & A2 (departing classes).
Withdrawal would interfere with the academic year for students in the following class level, such as those taking the XIC exams in October or November 2021. Withdrawal would also interfere with the academic year for students in the following class level for XC & AS Level exams. If an A2 student withdraws from May or June 2023, their AS grades will not be carried over, and they will have to retake their composite exams in October or November 2023.
The director of Cambridge Pakistan, Uzma Yusuf, has informed a national newspaper that only two A-level exams—history and mathematics—will be retaken on June 21; all other exams will be graded on an average.
It is crucial to remember that the choices offered by Cambridge International are intended to lessen the effects of exam cancellations and give candidates options for alternative assessment routes.
