A young film fan has been named as the victim of a terrifying vehicle accident, and her family is happy that she passed away with her boyfriend and twin sister by her side.
After Erica Hoy, 26, was murdered in a crash on the Port River Expressway in Adelaide shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, her bereaved family vowed to remember her as the “ideal daughter” and described her as their only child.
Erica is believed to have been hit by Carlie Eileen Richards, 38, in their red Toyota Prius, sending them in front of a truck together with her boyfriend Mike Reader, 29, and twin Lisa Hoy.
While Mr. Reader and Lisa were critically hurt and sent to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Erica passed away at the site.
‘She was a bright, happy, positive young girl,’ her heartbroken father, Greg Hoy, told The Advertiser.
‘I’m glad she didn’t pass away alone.’
It is alleged Ms Richards attempted to flee the scene and was later arrested by police.
She appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon from her bed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after she was deemed mentally unfit to appear in person.
Ms. Richards is accused of abandoning the scene of the accident, one crime of causing death by hazardous driving, three counts of causing hurt by dangerous driving, and two counts of driving carelessly.
She will also be charged with obstructing police inquiries into the collision by allegedly failing to respond to inquiries or provide her name and address.
Mr. Hoy claimed that Erica had spent the day of her death performing, which was what she enjoyed most.
The delighted father claimed that although his daughter was a good student, acting was her true calling.
She even starred as the lead in her school musical, Alice in Wonderland.
In addition to playing the lead role in the 2020 miniseries Jo-Anne Spirit Guide, Erica made an appearance on the screens of the Adelaide Film Festival last year in the web series The Reality of Humanity.
She was returning from an acting class when it occurred, he claimed.
In 2015, Erica and Lisa moved to Australia with their Australian father and Japanese mother.
Erica earned her Bachelor of Arts at Flinders University while also studying in Chinese and French, where the twins both attended classes.
The multitasker also dabbled in modelling and strutted the catwalk for The Boutiques in an effort to advance diversity in the fashion business.
Anyone with pertinent knowledge or dashcam video of the collision is invited to get in touch with Crime Stoppers.
