Colin Cole, an Australian comedian who stood 6 feet 7 inches tall and was a well-known figure on the UK stand-up scene, has reportedly passed away at the age of 66.
The news was announced on Facebook by “Dools” Doolieman, a Western Australian concert promoter who wrote: “Col was not only a terrific act but hysterical company in the car on tour.” I adored you like a brother, big guy, and I will genuinely miss you.
Cole, who was particularly active on the Jongleurs circuit in the 1990s, was also acknowledged by him as having “not always been the most PC comedian on the planet.”
Cole wasn’t the most creative stand-up comedian, but his ability to tell jokes and control an audience, no matter how unruly, kept him in demand.
Andre Vincent, who referred to the news as “gutting,” was one of those paying tribute on social media today. Cole was described by him as “a man with a large body and even greater heart.” Our jokes are once again safe, Big Col!
Sad news about Colin Cole, said Joe Wells, “he was always very nice to me backstage.” Despite the fact that we came from very different backgrounds and he had much more experience in weekend clubs than I did, he always treated me equally.
Cole was based in South East London at the time of his passing. He was born in 1956 in Brisbane, Australia.
On the TV show “Jongleurs,” he can be seen in action here:
